Some engineers focus on neural networks while neglecting physics.
In high-speed platforms like SpearX, vibration is a systemic error degrading the entire perception pipeline.
Whether from EDF motor harmonics or multi-rotor interference, the result is noisy data.
THE PROBLEM
Vibrations create two critical failures:
1. Spatial Degradation: High-frequency jitter (>50Hz) causes motion blur, reducing effective GSD. Small targets become indistinguishable from noise in RGB and LWIR spectra.
2. Temporal/Inertial Drift: Vibrations couple into the IMU. When acceleration data is contaminated by structural resonance (28-32Hz in carbon frames), INS accumulates bias. For Visual-Inertial Odometry (VIO), this causes rapid trajectory divergence.
Our 3-Layer Strategy
LAYER A: MECHANICAL DECOUPLING
Resonance tuning: We calculate airframe natural frequency, ensuring the payload mount's cutoff is lower than propulsion frequency but higher than control bandwidth.
Material Selection for dumping: Shift resonance peaks away from operational RPM ranges.
LAYER B: SENSOR SYNCHRONIZATION
Global shutter: At 300+ km/h, rolling shutters create distortion. best way- to use global shutters synchronized with propulsion phases.
Short Exposure: We prioritize sharpness for feature extraction over aesthetics.
LAYER C: ALGORITHMIC COMPENSATION
IMU-assisted deblurring: Gyroscope data mathematically reverses motion blur before frames hit the neural network.
Robust VIO: RANSAC-based outlier rejection ignores high-frequency jitter, focusing on stable terrain features.
RESULT:
Treating vibration as a data quality issue enables stable autonomous navigation under extreme loads. clean data is the prerequisite for reliable Edge AI.
